Image
We have a nice breezy spot by golden lake elementary school. !  Tuesdays 4-5:15.  Small group. 3 of us are over 65, the other one is less than 60. We enjoy exploring movement, meditation  and breath in safe ways.  Some asanas...alot of "quasi asanas" for balance, and strength

Yoga prevents injuries

My husband is complaining about an injury to his back.  I get to hear his moans and groans with every movement.  Our fridge was leaking so it had to be pulled out from the wall and he made some movements that his body isnt used to.  Those muscles get tight and stiff if we don't practice full range of movement on a regular basis.   That is what we do in yoga.  Practice full range of movement.  Usually we feel fine..  like there's no problem because we move our arms and legs forward and back.  But then we fall.. or we have to bend over to pick.something up off the floor.. Or reach up high to catch the ball the grandson just threw and that movement is one we haven't practiced for a looonnnnng time. Ouch! Yoga also gives us feedback.. in a controlled environment.  We carefully practice the movements and notice...wow...those muscles feel tight.  I haven't felt that spot In a long time.  I guess I'm not as fit as I used to be? ...

Ear massage. Quick and easy

In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), the ear is considered a microcosm of the human body, where each part corresponds to specific internal organs and bodily functions. Regular ear massage can help regulate internal organs and promote the smooth flow of vital energy, or “qi,” throughout the body. In an episode of “Health 1+1,” Hung-Chien Wu, director of the E Sheng Chinese Medicine Clinic in Taiwan, shared the proper technique for ear massage. He suggested that practicing it for just three to five minutes a day can help support internal balance and overall well-being. Wu said that the body’s energy pathways, called meridians, are closely connected to the ears. As such, massaging the ears is believed to stimulate them, improving blood circulation and enhancing immune function. TCM also holds that “the kidneys open into the ears,” meaning that an ear massage is closely linked to kidney health. Wu said that the concept of the kidneys in TCM differs from the anatomical kidneys recog...

Massage with pet by your side

Other advantages of an in home massage are:  1) you don't have to get dressed after your massage.  2) you won't have to drive home 3) you can go right to bed.

Shame on you!

When I was growing up this was a common expression when scolding a child and now I hear it often when scolding others for their political views.  This article was interesting to me and made me think of all the young girls (and boys) who have been sexually abused. Here is an excerpt and a link.to.the article if you would like to read more: Shame Is Unlike Any Other Negative Emotion Western medicine tends to separate mental health from physical health. Cole argued that they are interconnected and bidirectional. Mental and emotional burdens are stored in our bodies just as much as environmental toxins. Feelings of regulated shame can foster accountability and moral reasoning. However, unregulated or toxic forms of shame can lead to social withdrawal, negative self-identity, and mental illness. Unlike feelings of guilt, which focus on behavior—“I did something bad”—shame strikes at identity—“I am bad.” Shame is the feeling of being exposed as fundamentally inadequate—not just fai...

Kali. Goddess of destruction

Image
Can anyone relate to this painting right now? Reading the news these days..all the discord and lack of respect...lack of unity... makes me feel like sticking my tongue out at.the world. In the hindi religion Kali is the great destroyer.  Instead of being viewed as the evil one she is admired and seen as a necessary part of creation.  Although it's painful to see something you've worked hard on destroyed... sometimes it is necessary process.  It teaches us to see how we are attached to things remaining the "same as always" and then to practice "letting go" .  It also enables us to rebuild better.   I guess what's happening in our world must be necessary on some level because indeed, there seems to be nothing that can hold it back. Who sings that song, "you don't know what you've got til it's gone..pave paradise.. put up a parking lot".. joni Mitchell?  It's clear to me that I really didn't appreciate what we had before 2016...

Gratitude to my clients

Gratitude to my many students over the years who have shared their practice with me. I learn so much from you! And to my massage clients who entrust their body to me.  I am so honored.  From a yoga student of many years: To my teacher Hiyala indiga.who has supported me throughout this journey and has taught me through example to embrace each day as it comes. To appreciate the little things in life like the sunrise and the sunsets. Because of Her I have learned to be more present and to bring more awareness into my life. For this I am forever grateful. From a massage client:  Good morning, Hiyala.......with tomorrow being Thanksgiving, I wanted to thank you for your healing companionship over these many years. Your presence in my life has helped me find groundedness when I have felt at loose ends.  And your healing gifts have also opened me up to my energetic or spiritual body ?  Frequently at the close of a session with you, I am at peace in a very deep and prof...

How to book your yoga and massage

Image
I'm a bit old fashioned and i prefer the personal touch.  I prefer to talk to my clients and find out about them and their needs before they arrive for a class or a massage.  Please call or text me to make an appt for a phone chat.  Together we will determine which yoga class would work best for you or a good time for your massage or aerial yoga session. In my yoga classes, everyone is encouraged to go at their own pace.  We are currently focusing on  the chakras and the vibrations of these colors in our bodies as well as the energy of the elements.  In these days leading up to the holy days, we are doing a contemplative practice with periods of meditation. I hope you will join us!
